Mappoint Web Service

Does anyone know if one can create shaded area maps (by geographic region- state, county, etc) with the Microsoft Mappoint Web Service? or does it only allow pushpin mapping?

I know you can do this using Microsoft Virtual Earth so my thinking would lead me to believe that you could also do this with the Map Point web service as well. You might want to look at Virtual Earth as a solution if you can as it is free. I went through the process of looking at VE pretty extensively here but our needs ended up being a little greater then what I expected.

If you need a custom mapping solution I would look at SharpMap (it's on CodePlex and OpenSource). We are about to deploy a web application utilizing it. Just some thoughts, hope this helps...
